Delta Grown Passport to the Farms - 2012

It is time for the first annual Sacramento River Delta Grown Agri-Tourism Association Passport Weekend. This event will be held August 11-12, 2012 (9am-6pm both days), for family fun traveling the river to visit the farms on the Delta Grown Farm Trail.
See farm exhibits of crops, animals, and equipment, special tours, kids activities, local wine tasting, and fresh local produce.
Each ticket includes a “freebie” at each farm, bag (first 500 ticket holders to pick up bag, will receive a special reusable Delta Grown grocery bag) filled with farm information, Delta Grown magnet, coupons, and sponsor advertisements.
Kids under age 16 will receive an activity newspaper.
Meet the local Delta farmers and see what they have to offer. Tickets are $15/adult, kids under 16 years old free. Check back for more specific farm events as we get closer to the event.

#1 Steamboat Acres (15989 Sutter Island Rd, Courtland)
Special hay wagon farm tour of certified organic pear and cherry orchards, vineyard, alfalfa fields, and farm equipment. Fresh certified organic pears, honey, and bucket gardens for sale.
#2 Double M Farms/ McDowell Hunting Preserve (13161 Grand Island Rd, Walnut Grove)
Diversified farm with pears, field corn, alfalfa, wheat, and gamebirds (pheasants, chukars, quail). See in action alfalfa hay and wheat straw being baled, wildlife viewing (egrets, herons, hawks), farm equipment display and photo opt, gamebird pen viewing, baby chicks, and kids activities. Fresh pears, other fruit, and free-range eggs for sell.
#3 Heringer Estates Vineyards & Winery (37375 Netherlands Ave, and also Old Sugar Mill, Clarksburg)
Exclusive opportunity only to ticketholders, special wine tasting and barrel tasting tour under the majestic century old oaks at the Heringer Estates Vineyards. Wine purchases can be made at the Heringer Estates tasting room at the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg. Vineyard address: 37375 Netherlands Road, Clarksburg 95612.
#7 Delta Islands Organic Farm (14591 Walnut Grove Thornton Rd, Walnut Grove)
We will be giving away 3 lbs of Organic Heirloom tomatoes to all passport holders, (a $9 value). Choose from 20 different varieties of red, yellow, green and purple tomatoes. We will also have tomato tasting, and our full Farm Stand will be open, featuring organic bell peppers, cucumbers, garlic, onions, egplant, squash, zucchini, corn, melons, blackberries, culinary herbs and seasonal fruit.
Come down around midday and have lunch at one of six restaurants within 2 miles. Kids activity will be "Draw the Best Tomato" contest and the winning family will get a $20 gift certificate at our Farm Stand.
#9 Scribner Bend Vineyards Inc (9051 River Rd, Sacramento)
Wine taste as you walk around this beautiful event venue. Barrel tours at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. Also features sparkling wines.
#10 R Kelley Farms (1120 Scriber Rd, Sacramento)
Providing fresh and healthy produce. Will honour 15% discount on picked and u-pick items for Passport holders.
#11 Maggi’s Farm (9821 River Rd - Hwy 160)
The pear stand in the front yard. Since the 1950s, Maggi’s farm has solely featured delicious Bartlett pears. Ripened without commercial processing, the sweetness can't be beat. Children's activities on Passport Weekend. A discount will be given on purchases for ticket holders Aug 11th and 12th.
#13 Vierra Farms (3010 Burrows Ave, West Sacramento)
Picnic in the Patch with Vierra Farms infamous Watermelon Tasting. Discover more about watermelons and recipes. BBQ between 11:30am-2pm and live music. Activities for the kids. Discount on produce.
#14 Backyard Basic Gardens (35265 Willow Ave, Old Sugar Mill, Clarksburg)
Farmers’ Market in the historic Old Sugar Mill featuring fresh, local Delta Grown produce. Special tour of the Old Sugar Mill and garden boxes, and introduction of farm trail wineries. Discount to ticket holders on produce.
#15 Bogle Vineyards & Winery (37783 County Rd 144, Clarksburg)
Scenic upclose drive through the vineyards to the Bogle tasting room. Pack a picnic and relax in the shade of their Home Ranch Chardonnay vineyard.
#16 Due Vigne di Famiglia (35265 Willow Ave, Old Sugar Mill, Clarksburg)
Taste Italian varietals in the historic Old Sugar Mill. Meet the winemaker and engage in discussion on winemaking and grape growing.
Things to remember:
Bring an ice chest to keep produce cool in hot cars
Have a full tank of gas; only gas station is at the Walnut Grove Bridge.
Cash only at most farms.
Watch for slow moving tractors on the road and large trucks hauling products.
On the farm, follow all rules and remain in marked designated areas. Farms are an active operation.
You are responsible for your children and pets.
